Yeah Walz dropping out of the '26 race seems to indicate that this is indeed a real problem, and it's just a matter of time until all of it is uncovered.
If it were just Nick Shirley being a douche racist MAGA propagandist, soon enough the truth would come out exonerating the poor falsely accused Somalis, and all but the internet right would move on. In fact, this would benefit Walz, as he would be vindicated.
Instead, Walz is getting ahead of it by abruptly pulling the plug on his reelection campaign, and meeting with people like Amy Klobuchar to take his place. Given that there are 10 months to flesh this whole thing out before the election, it's not a matter of dropping out due to incorrect public perception. It's a matter of knowing a shitstorm is coming, and trying to diffuse it by handing the baton to a different Democrat who won't be dragged down by it.

This really isn't going to get solved until they rewrite the law to stop allowing these tiny "care" clinics to get easily licensed and receiving government $$.
This entire mess sprung from the belief that locally run care centers are efficient and preferred by many people, and that they also create loads of opportunities for small businesses in that field.
They made it very easy to get licensed to run things like childcare, with the thought that a few women can get together in the local neighborhood and run a small care center, earning the trust of the community, keeping the money local, and cutting out red tape. It also makes it far easier for care to be provided in rural areas, which otherwise may be deemed not worthy of setting up for larger companies providing such services.
Government payments were the next step, because it was thought, "Why should only the middle and upper classes have access to such care? Those on public assistance should qualify for this too, and the government will just food the bill!"
This led to fraud centers where all of the care provided is on the government dime, and they're either outright fraudulent, or they cook the books to exaggerate the amount of care provided.
Unfortunately, this can be very hard to police, especially in a tight-knit community where everyone is willing to get together and lie, in exchange for a cut of the pie.
They need to cut off these small providers from being eligible to receive government payments. A second possibility is to require all of these small providers to be subsidiaries of larger (and reputable) companies, where the providers are simply employees, and do not benefit from falsifying records.
Simply saying, "We're going to watch more closely for fraud" is never gonna work. There will always be ways to game the system, and the criminals will just get smarter and more careful. There will be no "Learing Center" next time.
