so Thailand wants to be the next Macau basically

they are pretty serious about legalizing casinos, which is a little shocking if you know anything about thai culture. ngl i think this has a lot to do with the current king's vision for the future (zero chance the previous king would have gone for this) and part of that is keeping chinese tourists in the mix im guessing. because when i was over there it was not uncommon for gambling busts that were nothing but drunk brits playing cards at 3am. like they were very serious about not allowing gambling, it was basically a religious thing.

its also interesting that the rules for thai nationals to enter the casinos are extremely strict; basically if youre thai and if you dont have the equiv of 1.5m USD in your account for 6 months, you cant step foot in the joint. as of 2021 there were about 125,000 thais who qualified for entrance. total.

anyway probably a good time to snatch up some real estate in BKK.

Wynn's recent earnings revealed this. I hold the stock. Wynn should manage fine if the US goes into a recession given its clientele. Wynn's future expansion in the UAE should be yuge, but they are still years away from the oil money rolling in.

    AI Overview

Wynn Resorts is actively monitoring the situation in Thailand regarding potential casino legalization and aims to be ready to participate in any bidding process for land-based casinos within large entertainment complexes, according to a recent GGRAsia article.

    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Wynn Resorts CEO Craig Billings stated that the company is "active in Thailand" and wants to be in a position to participate if the country moves forward with casino legalization.
    Early Stages:
Billings emphasized that the process is still in its early stages, with full details about regulations and licensing structures not yet available.
    Focus on UAE:
Currently, Wynn's primary focus is on the development of the Wynn Al Marjan Island casino resort in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.

That’s really interesting. I think the gambling busts there are more just shakedown busts. Obviously a ton of online players live there and from the random that got into issues, sounds like a 1k baht fine made it go away, unlike drugs which is serious business. But unless the live games are super juicy, they’ll now start cracking down on online players as they’ll view them as competition and those kids will have to move if they don’t want to transition to live

And what does casino not take up more than 10% of space mean when you’re building a casino? Weird wording. Unless they build some giant venue next to it and say it’s all under one roof? The way Thais are obsessed with playing the phone gambling games, I can see it being a giant slot parlor.

yeah i always wondered about that, if the people in the papers getting perp walked either couldnt afford the 'tea money' or got mouthy and fucked it all up for themselves.

hard to say what happens next with online there but since about an hour after black friday, thailand has been one of the top 3 destinations for poker pros to operate from it seems.. thats a big golden goose potentially. id not be surprised to see things swing in the opposite direction actually, with savvy forward thinkers loopholing the current regs to start new online poker rooms there. going to be interesting either way.

When I short Wynn stock I now have a face for the other side of the trade.

    European weapons manufacturers. Anything else.

the way i interpreted it was if you have a 100,000 square meter property... 90,000 has to be restaurants, shops, hotel rooms, pool, parking maybe, and the remaining 10% can be the gaming floor.

but really who knows, plus all this is very preliminary. people very high up in the gov wants it to happen tho, clearly, plus its got something like 76% public approval.

DO I have to be the one to say it. I wonder if this will cause a major shake up in Bangkok? (in case nobody heard major 7.7 EQ hit SE Asia including damage to Bangkok).

I can picture trying to card count there, thinking I got away with it, and then being attacked by a mob of ladyboys on the way out.

And I can picture more than a few posters here who would LOVE that happening to them.

Ive posted on PFA earlier that I have been told several times over my life time that I need to visit the Philippines because its so beautiful. I do plan on going atleast once in my lifetime.

Next, I have also been told several times over the years that Thailand is worth visiting. Add that I have a former co-worker (Mark) relocate there and enjoying the low cost retirement there and shares pictures of his awesome dinner plates.

I would like to visit Thailand once just to finally see it in person. But it is NOT to indulge in any of the sexual stuff there. The drawback would be the long flight. I am also concerned about safety traveling to foreign counties right now.

I also dont care for the street women grabbing people-
