Herbertstemple is not totally wrong on this point. The failure was in desegregating the students while firing all the black teachers and maintaining racist white supervision. Recipe for failure. Had they integrated and educated the teachers and board as well they might have had more success. Malcolm Gladwell had a revisionist history podcast about this. Quite interesting.
