Hillary's comment immediately reminded me of Romney and the 47% thing, except she made it in public!

Romney made his in private, but was naive enough to believe that he was around "supporters" and that no one would record it and distribute it.

I don't know why Hillary is doing this. All she's going to do is energize Trump's base to show up and vote for him.

Also reminds me a bit of the lesson David Cone learned in the 1988 NLCS, when playing for the Mets versus the Dodgers.

David Cone trashed the Dodgers, and several players specifically, in a newspaper interview.

The Dodgers bought copies of the article and pinned it all over the locker room. The players were furious and went out with extra furor against Cone, who pitched Game 2. They battered him for 5 runs in 2 innings.

Afterwards, it was widely considered to have been a mistake on the part of Cone, who was facing the Dodgers up 1-0 in the series, in New York, and up against the team's 4th best starting pitcher.

The bottom line is that you should never do anything to artificially energize your opponent -- or in this case -- the voters supporting your opponent.

Romney's comment was stupid because he was discussing campaign strategy in a setting which was only semi-private, and it came back to bite him.

I understood what he was trying to say -- that the 47% of Americans receiving some form of public assistance are unlikely to vote for him, so the campaign should spend its time, money, and energy on the other 53%. These discussions occur on BOTH sides of all campaigns, where it is intentionally decided to "ignore" a certain segment of the population campaign-wise, as such efforts/money would be wasted.

That's all Romney was sayng, yet he stupidly said it in a setting where someone could record him, put it on the internet, and it would be very easy to take out of context (or at the very least, drum up concerns that he doesn't care about half the country).

Hillary actually went out and stated publicly that a large portion of Trump supporters are "deplorable".

While it's true that none of these "deplorables" were going to vote for her anyway, this also energizes them to actually show up to vote.

Campaign Strategy 101 states that you never, never, never insult any segment of the voting population, even your opponent's voters. You insult the candidate, but not the voters.

I think that she galvanized people she wasnt going to get votes from against her, and in doing so threw down the gauntlet at the undecideds, who are now forced to choose between her or the Idiocracy Party.

And thats a brilliant gambit.

More importantly it spells out a vital message to her constituents; your vote wont be forgotten. "If you back Trump, thats who you are and you wont find a warm welcome after you stagger out of the political woods, bloody and starved and scared and cold. So measure twice and cut once."

And thats an important message. People backing a neo-Nazi should be aware of the consequences of their actions.

Also this clearly wasnt an off the cuff rant, her strategists were Johnny on the spot at every talking engagement, responding to complaints from ass-hurt Republicans staring into the void with literally "The truth hurts".

I dont agree with all her postures and she definitely needs a heat lamp and an electric rock on Air Force One because cold blooded creatures cant regulate their own body heat, but Hillary might be the single greatest politician I've seen in my lifetime. Pretty sure our Security is going to be in good hands with her.
