In Texas it has been a big deal for a long time, then I saw the Juneteenth episode of Atlanta a couple years ago and thought...this is starting to spread....now it’s a federal holiday.

I got a corporate wide email from my CEO saying “Happy Juneteenth”. Is that what we are going for here with this? Isn’t this like a solemn Holliday for reflection or some shit.
I have to head for a graduation in Columbus in the whitest suburb imaginable. I’m going to pick up a few cases of Colt 45 and Old English 800 if they still make it and insist they swap out the White Claw for an appropriate Juneteenth drink. Some of you less woke folks won’t do your part and that’s why we are all screwed.
It’s like an Independence Day for former slaves and their descendants. Should non-Black descendents of colonial Americans treat Independence Day as a solemn occasion given that it marks the ending of taxation-without-repreentation slavery by the British?

I’ve always felt the Juneteenth push was misaligned. Is a holiday appropriate for something regarding freeing the slaves but it seems they’ve pushed for referring to it as Black Independance Day as if they are trying to deflect from those racists founding fathers who declared our Independance from the UK. I’ve always felt the appropriate holiday would be in September when Lincoln actually issued EO 1862-90 aka the Emancipation Proclamation. But that’s just my opinion. Our Independance was declared but wasn’t affirmed until we won against the Brits in 1781 thus why the same logic seems appropriate for the same regarding a freeing of the slaves holiday n
