The good news: There were 3169 combined entrants between flight 60A and flight 60B (I played 60B). Only 143 survived. I'm one of those 143, meaning I outlasted 95.5% of the field already.

The bad news: I'm 142nd in chips out of those 143. I have 3.5 BB (28k, playing 4k/8k/1k).

The other good news: I got the WSOP no-cash-monkey off my back, and cashed in 2017 on my 7th try. This was after a bubble and 3 other deep runs, so it was about time. I've now cashed in every WSOP year I've played, dating back to 2005.

Aside from a hot run at the beginning where I quickly shot up to 21k from the starting stack of 8k, I was never doing particularly well in chips. Most of the time, I was sitting with below average chips.

This event had 30 minute levels. It was better than that awful Giant event, but still moved up a little too fast for my taste. I did like the fact that it was 8-handed.

They screwed up the logistics of this one big time. They had a 60-minute dinner break after just 3 hours of play (lol), then had to give us another 20 minute break just an hour later, to do a color up. Why couldn't these two have been combined? Then we had another color up break later in the event, also just an hour after a prior break.

Everyone was complaining that there were too many breaks, and that the dinner break was too early (and perhaps should have been avoided entirely).

Thanks to the breaks, we finished playing after 3am.

I got AA a bunch of times, but never got any appreciable action.

I did survive one all-in late in the day with 88. I shoved my final 29.5k pre, someone called with ATo, flop was A56, turn 8. Appropriate for a Crazy Eights event. Oh, and I was at starting table #8.

This is a dumb "gimmick" event where it's 8 handed, has an $888 buyin, and has a first place guarantee of $888,888.

However, I might play it again next year, if it falls the right way in the schedule.

There are 2 more flights tomorrow, so we are probably going to see around 300 people in the combined Day 2 on Monday at 2pm.

My table-mates have not been posted yet, as some will be tomorrow's survivors.

It is unclear what money I am guaranteed at this point, but it's over $2k.

I played with a few known players today:

David Pham: Very aggro, ran up his stack early, then shot it all off very quickly

Loni Harwood: Came to my table in the middle of the day. Was shortstacked. Did not play a hand by the time the table broke. She seems nice.

Eric Froehlich: He got moved to my first table before it broke, but we weren't together for very long. I've only had 2 people with me more than once this WSOP -- Froehlich twice, and Justin Bonomo three times.

This event had unlimited rebuys. I did not rebuy at all.

I committed to two bullets, and charged all backers for 2 bullets. As I will not be using the second bullet, everyone will get a refund for that (including markup).

Chris Ferguson made Day 2, but was not at my table at any point. He is also short stacked, but not as badly as I am.

The Hanson Kid is doing well, with over 200k in chips. He told me that he listened to the latest PFA Radio episode while playing today.

I have a full day off Sunday, which is nice.

I don't recall the last time I went into a Day 2 with such a tiny stack. I'll need some luck.

Flights 60C and 60D were bigger.

    2072 registered for 60C, and 93 survived.

2878 registered for 60D (almost as much as 60A and 60B combined), and 136 survived.

This means 372 people return tomorrow, from a field of 8,120 entrants (though these were not all unique entrants, as many people rebought one or more times.)

$2751 was the highest Day 1 payout, which occurred in flight 60A. So we are looking at more than that for the minimum Day 2 payout.

The 372 Day 1 survivors comprised 4.58% of the field.

The full prizepool and my tablemates have not been announced yet.

It is likely the BB will start in seat 2, and I am seat 5.

This means I will probably have to shove within the first 4 hands, as folding those 4 would leave me with just 16k, and then folding the SB would leave me with 11k.

Prizepool announced for $888 event. Min Day 2 cash is $3164. Made extra $1141 just by surviving last hand of Day 1. Weird! #pfa60
