Kimmel was taken off the air, not because of government pressure, but because ABC knew they were going to lose massive advertising dollars. They had to move on it.

See, I do believe this was government retaliation, and I don't like that part of it.

It's true that Kimmel's show was likely losing money, so it wasn't a huge loss for ABC to suspend it (and even get rid of it).

However, this was definitely done because the companies involved (ABC and the affiliate-owner Nexstar) were scared of the FCC bringing consequences upon them both presently and down the road. The last thing they wanted was to stir up the hornet's nest with regulators, so it was easier just to bend the knee and suspend Kimmel.

This sets a bad precedent, because we really don't want the government (of either party) directly or indirectly threatening consequences for speech they don't like. That's part of the reason Twitter and Facebook were so censorious of posts regarding COVID or Hunter Biden's laptop. That was awful, and this isn't good either.

ABC definitely has a right to suspend Kimmel if they don't like what he's saying on their platform, and had they done this on their own, I'd have no objection.

Kimmel did blatantly lie. He did knowingly spread misinformation about the Kirk shooter. If ABC simply said, "No, you're not using our platform to do that shit", and suspended him, it would have been 100% justified.

I just don't like how it went down. The suspension happened due to government pressure, and we should never want that.

Three was a poll done of Americans regarding Tyler Robinson. It was done September 14, long after it was made clear he had become left wing in recent years, and a day after the news broke about the trans boyfriend.

Despite that, here were the numbers regarding beliefs about Tyler's political affiliation:
24% He's a Republican
21% He's a Democrat
15% He's neither
40% Not sure

Amazing that more people thought he was a Republican as recently as September 14, and that only 1/5 of the people polled had the correct answer (that his ideology most matched that of Democrats).

Of Democrats polled, 41% said he was a Republican, and only 8% said he was a Democrat!

My Facebook feed is full of arrogant lefties proclaiming that Tyler was "MAGA", and laughing at the stupid right wingers who believe "MAGA misinformation" that he was actually on the left. Amazing.

Lefties on social media are so tilting.

If they said, "People lie on TV all the time, so what Jimmy Kimmel did wasn't a big deal, and the FCC shouldn't have pressed to get him suspended", that would be completely reasonable.

If they said, "Yeah, Jimmy lied, but so does Trump all the time, so it's hypocritical for him to send the FCC to get Jimmy fired for doing the same thing", that would also be completely reasonable.

Instead, we are getting either "Jimmy got suspended by Trump's fascist FCC for telling jokes" or "Jimmy was telling the complete truth, Trump couldn't handle it, and he had him suspended", or "Jimmy is being taken out of context, and didn't mean the shooter was right wing. That's the dishonest spin from MAGA."


I can find almost zero left-leaning people on social media who will admit that Jimmy Kimmel intentionally lied/misled about the shooter's political beliefs. They simply can't accept that longtime whiny lefty Kimmel, who has cried about Trump on his show for the past decade, would possibly consider telling a lie in order to make Trump/MAGA look bad.

It was just out of context, you see. We still don't know the shooter's ideology or reasons for doing this, you see. He was just telling jokes, you see.

Oh, and then when I present them with the mountain of evidence that this kid wasn't right wing and in fact hated conservatives, they go into conspiratorial mode:

- The kid's mom is lying because she's MAGA

- The electrician boss is lying because... well, he just is, even though he isn't even political

- Law enforcement is lying because they're in Utah and that's a red state

- The FBI is lying because they work for Trump now

- The texts where he said he killed Charlie for being hateful are fabricated by law enforcement, and never happened

- This whole thing is a pre-planned conspiracy so Trump can seize dictatorial power and destroy adversaries

I always propose this exercise for anyone who has either switched parties or is frequently taking the side of the opposite party to theirs, and yet blames it on how their party has changed and lost them.

I say, "Go back and read the platform in the year 2000 for your party. If you mostly agree with it, yet you can't agree with that same party today, then the party changed on you. If you mostly disagree with it, then it was mostly you who changed."

Most people refuse to go do this, because they don't want to accept the truth that they changed, rather than their party's ideology.

I will say that Democrats have changed more since 2000 than Republicans, ideology-wise. Republicans have mainly changed in Demographics, as they have become more working class and rural in their appeal, and that has made up for losses in the upper and upper-middle class demographic.
