Cash is becoming used (and accepted) less and less these days, so this probably won't affect much.
Eventually the pennies will run out (people will hoard them, and they'll disappear), and merchants won't have them as change. So if something is $17.12, and you give $18 cash, you'll get back 85 cents instead of 88, and you'll end up eating the 3 cents. Not a tragedy.
Cash is making a little bit of a comeback due to some places charging a 1-4% credit/debit fee, in order to pay their processing costs. Usually when I see that, I just pay cash, unless the amount is less than 2%, as I get a minimum of 2% cash BACK from my CC anyway, so up to 2% I break even.
There's a pizza place I frequent where it's a 3% surcharge to pay with a card. I always pay cash. They are surprised when I say I want to pay cash, because apparently almost no one else does. They always charge me the card price, and I have to say, "Actually I'm paying cash", and they remove the 3%.
Nothing pisses me off more than when a restaurant/merchant is cash only or card only.
Cash only is just retarded; recently had breakfast in downtown Portland and had to walk a block and a half to an ATM. Grow up faggots, it's 2025.
Card only never matters to me but I do think it's ridiculous that businesses aren't equipped to take legal currency. I asked at a place and was told it's because few people use it anymore and the worktime required to get it/deposit it is needless, and it creates an unsafe environment (lol).

"America is not so much a nightmare as a non-dream. The American non-dream is precisely a move to wipe the dream out of existence. The dream is a spontaneous happening and therefore dangerous to a control system set up by the non-dreamers." -- William S. Burroughs
I've mentioned this before, but in the 2000s, I frequented a Vegas pizza place on Desert Inn & Decatur which was open 24 hours, had impossibly cheap pizza, and which oddly had multiple employees working at 3am who seemingly did nothing. Sometimes they'd be in suits. Not even joking.
It got robbed multiple times, as well. Wonder why,.
One time I needed change for $100 when buying their $7 large pepperoni, and a guy popped out of nowhere with the cash, as if he'd been hiding behind the corner wall.
100% was a front.
True story- About 15-18 years ago, I was talking with some associates about eliminating the penny from circulation. We just brushed off the idea as something that would never happen.
