I can end a win streak like no one’s business. One hitter thus far.

Skenes getting the call in PIT. Starting saturday vs the cubbies.
I tossed some lunch money on him for NLROY at +1000 right now on DK.
Can completely see him having a DeGrom like beginning of his career. Hopefully he has a coach also to show him DeGrom now and teach him how to pitch, not just throw 100 all the time.
Damn, I deleted Fanduel app off my phone because I had so many betting apps I was catching a lot of GA jokes as they filled an entire screen page. Accurate assessment, but we prefer to keep that to ourselves.
I hadn’t seen my girlfriends son in a few weeks as he was off at wrestling camps on the weekend when I was there. I got a hello and then the next words out of his mouth was ‘let’s bet some games tonight.’ I’ve created a monster because he collects when he wins and I eat it when he loses. I’m going to have to snag his Xbox one of these times and hand him a pawn ticket so he truly understands how this works.
He’s a natural prop under bettor with no encouragement from me. What kid when first introduced to gambling bets an under hits prop? A smarter one than me. He’s been a Pirates homer for all of his short life. Makes him instantly want to bet on failure and ineptitude.
China has a future protégée. I’m sure his mother won’t blame me.
I grabbed Skenes in fantasy last year for $1 (minimum bid) when he was drafted. I'm in a keeper league, so I could keep him for 2024. That was the good news.
The bad news was that it eats a full year of his fantasy contract, because I can't get anyone in "rookie" status (meaning you can keep them perpetually until they lose MLB rookie status) in the middle of the season.
So for Skenes to have any value for me, he had to come up fairly early this year. Which he is.
If Skenes can truly be an immediate star, the Pirates might finally have something between him and Jared Jones. And maybe Quinn Preister if he ever gets it together.
That offense though... that needs a lot of work.
I love when national writers just throw in random shit or don't pay attention/don't know underlying stats.
From USA Todays weekly power rankings where Dodgers are #1, the small blurb they write:
I don't religiously follow the Dodgers of course, but I had thought his first few starts were rough. What a mirage of a statline he has right now. 7 starts, 5-0 2.58 ERA. Looks great!James Paxton's 2.58 ERA just more found money.
24 BB/ 22 K, career low 35.4% GB rate, also career best 6.3% HR/FB. Leads to a 4.88 FIP, and 5.64 xFIP.
That regression is coming soon.
Bo Jackson visits the Ravine and LA not gonna miss a minute.
The Cinicinnati broadcasters were incredulous about the lines to get into Dodger stadium. The pregame mayhem was worth remarking about for a few minutes. They were not unaware that LA traffic is dreadful normally. However, they were talking about lines of people outside the parking lot and other details I could not fully appreciate but the wonder in their voice impressed me.
Normally the seats behind home plate are mostly empty 1st inning. Today they were all seated. No empty seats at first pitch.
You want to be able to tell the grandkids someday you saw Ohtani and you saw Elly in their prime.
Skenes was as nasty as advertised. Pitched 6 innngs. 11ks. 0 hits. One walk that the ump missed an easy strike 3 on or he would have faced the minimum.
Was following on phone at work. Still hate pulling a guy mid-no-hitter. But thats the new world. He hit 100 pitches.
Gl this weekend. As is the story the last 25 years, Twins hot streak cooled off quickly after playing the Yankees.
Tribe gets to miss Pablo and Ryan as well. 2 of 3 for the Twinkies is the best I am hoping for.
We always look good until we play the Yankees also and reality hits. We are a different team with Kwan out, as much for his defense as hitting, but I’m certainly not looking for sympathy from a Twins fan missing half his team regularly.
Weather looks really iffy for tmrw and possibly Sat when I looked at tickets. I see a double header in our future
Skenes also struck out the first 7 batters (!!) he faced!
Wow!
That was a killer 2nd start. Looks like he shook off the butterflies which plagued him in his first start.
He wasn't going to be able to get through all 9. He had 100 pitches. Made sense to pull him.
Several Dodgers transactions today:
1) The James Outman phenomenon is over. An unheralded prospect who hit 23 HR in 2023 with an OPS of .790, he has completely collapsed in 2024, batting .147 over 36 games. He's been sent to the minors. You won't see him again for awhile.
2) Jason Heyward is BACK from injury. Whether he can duplicate his unexpected 2023 comeback year remains to be seen.
3) Max Muncy to the DL. Nobody even knew he was hurt. However, he was in a 1-for-25 slump, so maybe it was realized he's been injured. Supposedly a right oblique strain.
4) The Injuns sent Anthony Banda to the Dodgers. Banda is a career failpitcher who was in Cleveland's minor league system. Yawn.
5) Miguel Vargas is back. There was a lot of excitement about him last year, but he played poorly and started the year in AAA.
As we observed (gut) - Dodgers threw the bag at the wrong Asian. Cubs Imanaga strikeouts have to find a way onto your card today.
That first pitch fastball from Yammy is not gonna play up in the playoffs
It’s Buehler day today so I gotta hit the lab brb
