Doc orders blood test. Says my bad cholesterol is high. Puts me on a statin. 6 months later, another blood test, numbers still high. Doc changes my statin. I go through a year of issues with unknown muscle pain. Doc does another blood test. Cholesterol still high. Adds another medication for me to take along with statin. 6 months later, blood test, cholesterol still high. Mother tells me she switched statins and had a reduction in her bad cholesterol. I find out the statin my doc has me taking has the known side effect of CAUSING MUSCLE PAIN! I tell my doc I want to switch, she says to continue with the statin that might be causing my muscle pain and take Coenzyme Q10. WTF? I told her (this is all via messages on their “portal”) that I really would prefer to switch as this statin has not been very effective reducing my LDL, but I want to say “What the fuck is wrong with you! I’ve been coming to you for a year and a half with this mystery pain and it’s YOUR FAULT because you switched my statin. I’m not taking this shit anymore!”
Maybe this is the last straw and I should find a different PCP.
