In the 2000s, we started to see a change in America. Throughout the 20th century, members of both parties were typically patriotic.
Since then, patriotism has become completely polarized. Anyone considering themselves patriotic is almost always on the right. Anyone displaying an American flag on social media is almost always on the right. Anyone criticizing America compared to other countries is almost always on the left, unless it's criticism regarding one subject (such as when I state that western Europe tends to be better with consumer rights than the US).
In fact, if you are on the left and claim to love America, you will often get derided in left wing circles.
This has given rise to the election of Ilhan Omar, a Congresswoman who clearly hates the United States. She sympathizes with terrorists, and basically sees the US as evil and works to give our country comeuppance from the inside.
If you hate America, you should not run for Congress. And people definitely should not vote for you.
She's also a huge anti-Semite, and doesn't even hide it.
