Mosquito bites turning dark & looking ugly -- am I going to die of Mosquito Super AIDS??

I feel like our current generation's going to bubble in the game of longevity. Imo at the most we're about 3 generations away from some sort of anti aging breakthrough or just being able to routinely grow and replace worn out organs. If we used a few years worth of the Pentagon budget on the health related r&d we'd be set.


Anywho, I'm guessing bed bugs but far from sure. some people I know run an apartment complex in Vegas and they have to call the exterminator now n then. The exterminator says every hotel in Vegas has had bed bugs many times. They're fairly common in hotels.

Backcountry hiking is the shit if you are in decent shape and in the right locale. I did solo a few times back in the 1990s, when I lived in Arizona and weighed about 100 lbs less than what I weigh today. Once for 5 days on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, once for a similar period in the San Franscisco Peaks, and once for three days in Santa Rita Mountains.

And being in decent shape makes all the difference. The loaded pack at the beginning of the San Franscisco Peaks excursion weighed about 80 pounds. And I started hiking at about 8500 feet elevation, which was quite higher than the 1800 foot elevation I lived at.

Camped at about 9000 feet the first two nights, then at 11,000 the next two. This was in October, and there was snow and ice above in the ground above about 10,500 feet on the back side of the mountains, but I didnt know that when I loaded my pack with 2.5 gallons of water before going up to 11.000 feet.

I was in decent shape, but it still took me all day to climb from the lower camp to the upper one. Didn't help that I slipped on ice on the path and fell about 40 feet down a snow-and-ice covered scree field, only to saved from falling even farther and getting seriously injury by one of the few trees growing in the scree. Had to chip steps in the ice with a rock to get back up to the trail after I dropped my knive in the snow covering it.

It was beautiful. Not many pics, though. Camera died on the second day. Super pissed!

Closing note: If you haven't tested yourself by making such a trip solo, I highly recommend it if you like the outdoors and a challenge.
