You mean no one is attached to my skin like Marty... kind of like a leech, which is pretty much what he's been his whole life.

I don't ask for much in exchange for running this forum. I don't attempt to make money from it. I don't even ask that people here be nice to me (see someone like Deal, who has trolled me for years yet never been banned or restricted).

But I've made it clear since I started his forum that I'm not going to have my enjoyment of the site ruined by some miserable asshole who follows me into every thread in order to troll me, including mundane ones like this.

Anyone who attempts to do this will be gone.

You will find very few other forums out there where the rules regarding treatment of the owner are so lax, but I have to draw the line somewhere.

I think I remember something about an issue with your account. You were never secretly restricted, trust me. I never perceived you as any threat here, even in the days when you were still being initiated into the Gay Poker Mafia.

Regarding Jewdonk, you have to understand that this is an ongoing pattern with him which repeats itself over and over.

When he first returns to the forum, he actually posts interesting content. This includes trip reports, stories about his work, stories about his latest epic apartment which he will sneak out from at 3am in a few months because the landlord's an asshole, etc.

Usually these quality threads (and I'm being serious here, not sarcastic) contain pictures and vivid detail. They are entertaining, and you can tell that Marty put a lot of time writing them up in MS Word lockdown.

However, as time passes, Marty starts to get both increasingly bitter and lazy.

Gone are the interesting threads and posts.

Replacing them are hastily-written, repetitive troll posts, aimed at the usual people he doesn't like. Even his Trump thread posts are incredibly lazy and devoid of any kind of fact or debate. (Nowadays it's just something like, "TRUMP 2020, SUCK IT LIBERAL SNOWFLAKES!!!11")

The final stage of Marty's degradation is to relentlessly troll me. Basically whenever he sees me post, he comes back with something repetitive and obnoxious, even if I'm posting about something harmless and non-controversial.

I don't believe that the Good Doctor actually consciously changes his posting style, but it's just a result of his general anger and bitterness, combined with his obvious psychological illness and alcoholism. Basically he is incapable of acting like a normal adult here, and needs to be put into timeout for awhile. At some point later, he starts to miss the community, and vows to come back a new man.

Rinse and repeat.

The only reason I keep allowing it is because his follies have given many lulz to this community for over a decade, and I'm a sucker for tradition.

But I always know the way it will end when I unban him.

Basically, the author is saying that the pursuit of wisdom is a fool's errand if the pleasure of living is sacrificed in the process. If Solomon was the true author of this book, and supposedly when he was quote old, he was basically saying the deathbed equivalent of "Damn it!!! Yes, titles get lost because of how vBulletin works. For example, JMM, who has never been banned or post-restricted here in any way, lost his "PFA Bert Sugar" title. I never touched his account since giving him the title. It just vanished.

How does this happen? vBulletin has a flaw where auto-promotions of user title will override custom titles. So when someone went from "Member" to "Contributor" by reaching 500 posts, it would clobber their custom title.

Same with anyone whose access level was changed for any reason (such as a post restriction).

I later found that setting a custom title as "HTML allowed" (even if I don't include HTML in the title) fixes this problem, but I discovered it on my own.

I don't administrate forums in a passive-aggressive fashion. Never have, never will. If I am restricting or banning someone, I say so. I even announce when I ban someone from a thread.

It might be difficult for a truck driver to make the vBulletin change, just as I would have difficulties backing a rig into a bay. However for someone in the field these tasks are super rudimentary. Stating otherwise just proves your expertise level.

Nothing was "mistakenly activated". Read the above again. Do I need to explain this in smaller words for you to understand?

Regarding SSL, vBulletin's own staff admitted that this version of vBulletin (which I've heavily modified and added to, hence the freeze at this version) was not designed for SSL implementation, and doing so is not a trivial process.

You basically have to go through a lot of individual components you added -- whether ones you wrote in yourself, ones you downloaded, or even things like custom BBcodes which you added through vBulletin's own admin portal.

It's not a difficult technical task, but it's a pain in the ass to track down and remember everything.

There's also not a one-size-fits-all tutorial unless you installed a standard vBulletin and barely touched it. (For example, my vegascasinotalk forum, which I took over from someone else and was barely modified, was far easier to implement than PFA.)

I got to it "years behind the industry" because it's unnecessary. This isn't a banking site. Security of that nature isn't particularly important on a site like this. I only bothered with it because google was starting to penalize sites without it. You were actually the one who cried about the site "not being secure" before I had implement it. Again, you barely understand anything you post about regarding computers, and your naive rants would be laughable ("SSL = secure site, No SSL = site not secure!!!!11") if not laced with such insufferable arrogance.

BTW, how many vBulletin forums do you run?

Doesn't surprise me that you worked from SSL for Dummies tutorials to get things done, though.
