I obviously agree he’s a complete dumbass but when talking about this situation I’m looking at things he did that actually cost American lives. Throw anyone else in the president seat in January with that intel and they wouldn't have closed the country down at that point either. January 31th Biden still thought a travel ban with China wasn’t necessary.

But let’s hypothetically say Trump did immediately close the country in January and we missed the outbreak. Ok great, then what would we do now? He would be under enormous pressure to open the country back up and we would get hit with a huge second wave because almost no one in our country would have gained immunity from the first wave.

I’m just not sure there was any perfect set of decisions that could have been made that would have resulted in far less deaths overall. South Korea was able to pull it off but they’ve been through this kind of shit much more recently so culturally it’s much easier for them to shut down and get everyone on board.

Also, Fauci may have downplayed the danger at one time, but as new information came in he adjusted his perspective and sounded the alarm and has been trying to protect the public with the best available information. That's what people who believe in science and medicine do.

This is likely correct. Covid 19 testing known to have great test specificity (almost 100 percent) but poor psychometric properties for its sensitivity roughly 80 percent. Such poor sensitivity would normally not be approved but when you are desperate you go with what you have.

That article does not have a proposed mechanism.

Also, biphasic just means there are 2 phases to a disease. It is not even clear what the authors of that article mean by biphasic, although I assume they mean an incubation phase and a symptomatic phase, in which case many diseases are biphasic.
