Why?

Well that's self explanatory, but suffice to say regardless of how you feel about me personally or whatever, ask yourself this- what PRECISELY is contained in a .zip Ryry? How can you tell without opening the thing? Once opened, how confident are you that what you see is all that you got?

tsk tsk, starting to wonder how much of you abysmal windows8 experience was just the OEM software and how much is a shitty virus/trojan infection wrecking your machine? Hmm...based on my small sample size, I am guessing you leave yourself exposed all the time, and that's not a good thing...but by all means, live however you are the happiest friend.

We all know that there is software out there that when run on a machine that someone is playing poker on will transfer hole card information to a 3rd party machine and that information will then be used to cheat the player. This is what the Girah scammer did, this is what Matt 'licks hairy ass' Marifioti is accused of being involved with doing, etc.

The hard part of exploiting a machine is getting that software running on it. It's not all that easy to gain access to machines and run executable install packages. This is why they wrap it up onto something their target machines owners will voluntarily run. Poker related software. Never download any of that stuff from anywhere but the author and even at that you are taking a risk. Free poker calculators/tools should never be run. Anti-Malware and antivirus programs also don't catch these tools. They aren't doing anything any other software you purposely installed on your machine is not able to do. It's not that you aren't getting the tool you are expecting it's that you are also installing their software at the same time.

Although, you got me thinking...I would hazard a guess these 3rd party hole card stealing executables are probably written by either the scammers or someone they paid to write the thing for them, which means it's unlikely the software would have a valid digital signature correct?

If I am right, TDSS killer (link) should find them without a problem as it has an option to check for files without a valid digital signature, as would any anti-malware program which can hunt for unsigned software. I am posturing here, but I feel strongly virus scanners and such should be tweakable to search for such things.

you can always download the Tunnel Bear software https://www.tunnelbear.com/

Flip it on, turn it to UK, and download the FTP or Stars software as if you were a euro. It lets you get the good pokerstars software too, not the crappy half-assed version they try to pawn off on us Americans/

Why not just have someone respectable in the poker community from Canada or UK just download the client and re-upload it to a file hosting site like sendspace?

I'll grab it using a VPN later from FTP website and put it on a file hosting service if people are needing this but I have no reason to install their software as I have nothing significant on the site that I care about when Black Friday hit.

For $600 I'm pretty sure you are only allowed to blow him.

As per shortbus, real money transactions arent live till 6th of nov, and I'm pretty sure I also saw somewhere balances wont be "live" till then.

I agree 408...I have two laptops and tried it on the other laptop first & the software worked...And swarms of people were downloading it from cnet on the 2plus2 thread so I thought It was certainly safe? What can I now do to ensure my laptop is secure?

I still haven't heard one thing about collecting from the DOJ.
FTP has told me to just fuck off they can't help, and I've heard nothing back from the DOJ either.
Is anyone doing anything to collect?
I know I'm going to wake up one day and find out I missed some deadline and forfeited my roll.
