You just need the desire to do it because alcohol is fucking poison and nothing good ever comes from it…every single major screw-up/failure in my life was booze related in one form or another
Regarding AA, I gave it a shot several times, always after an off the rails casino experience. What I discovered was it was the most depressing atmosphere I have ever attended. First, half the people there are court ordered, and have no desire to do anything other than fulfill their commitment to the Judge. I actually overheard one guy say to his buddy "two more meetings and we are done with this shit". LOL. Then of course you have the judgemental old timer who gives unsolicited advice. And the biggest LOL was I had a guy effectively admit to me the only reason he goes anymore to meetings was how easy it was to pick up distressed women. The last time I went I got stuck with the tab at Dennys, what a joke. Oh, when they pass around the collection plate, I would always throw in a couple bucks. There was one guy, someone who always volunteered to share his fucking story and brag he was 10 years sober never would put in even a quarter. But here is the deal, after the meeting we stopped at the same convenience store, he did not see me. He bought a carton of cigarettes and about and about $30 worth of junk, which he could have got 50% less at the grocery store, and then he could have put a couple bucks in the AA till. That place sucks.
I agree about booze related fuck ups. I am pretty solid financially now, but I'd be much much better off if I never had drank. But I guess 70% of the population could say that. It seems everyone develops a vice (booze, gambling, drugs, smoking, porn, etc..)
