The DDOS on the healthcare system is their own fault. Hospitals are owned by billion dollar corporations run by multi-millionaire administrators. I am sure some government regulators made it a lot harder to prepare for this, but they were and still are billionaires with tremendous resources to bribe lawmakers.

If there is a villain here, it has to be the people that own, run and manage hospitals.

there has been a switch in the supply chain to "just in time" low unit of measure delivery

most hospitals do not want to sit on a bunch of stock for stuff they probably won't use

it's really more of a state or federal government disaster preparedness issue

also ridiculous that people argue about the deathrate when the fact is that hospitals in areas with large outbreaks are already reaching their breaking points in some cases, already running out of beds for EVERYONE, not just covid patients. Docs and nurses coming down with the disease makes a dire situation even worse. When all the beds are filled, people are gonna be dying of all sorts of things not even related to covid-19. And we got weeks and weeks of escalating numbers ahead of us.

NYC expects to run out of intensive care beds by Friday.
