We drove this 695 route around Baltimore and over this bridge. Incredible to think at 1:30am whoever these people driving them cars were could never have imagined a massive ship was about to hit that bridge and kill them all, pretty crazy how this went. The crew communicated to the Maryland DOT shortly after departure that they "lost propulsion". This was long enough before the collision that the governor has claimed they were able to stop most traffic from entering the bridge. From watching every clip available, it appears the only maneuver the ship made was turning directly into the support column that caused the collapse.
