Actually this wouldn't work for single moms and college students (at least for many of the offers), because they require a relatively high expenditure of money within 90 days on each card.
This is why I don't alert people like Ken Scalir to this approach.
Perhaps that's what Shizzmoney meant by his "NeoFeudalism" comment.
My attitude is, "If I'm going to spend this money anyway, why not get something back for it?"
This is the first time I've seen this card:
https://www.theexplorercard.com/50kA...1Ti5BPVNz35SNA
It's basically the same as the Southwest/Airtran cards. Spend $2k in first three months and get $50k in flight miles. $50k in flight miles for Southwest will get you 2 round-trip flights in the US. I'm not sure how that translates to United.
http://www.capitalone.com/credit-car...enture-rewards
This is the Capital One Venture card. It is a personal card, so you don't need a TIN for it.
You earn 2% on everything, but those rewards can only be redeemed for travel. Basically, your rewards build up, and then when you buy an airline ticket, hotel room, or rental car, you can use your rewards balance against it.
The best thing about this card is a $400 rewards bonus ("40,000 miles") if you spend $3,000 in the first 90 days.
dangiel druff i bought someone a refundable ticket so they could have sushi with me at the philly airport today and they said the person could take the boarding pass back if they didnt want to take the one way flight to boston but they havent refunded me the 300 ish on my airport scam yet whats my play
Here is another card with a good signup bonus, provided you can spend $3000 in 3 months.
http://www.nerdwallet.com/card-detai...hire-Preferred
This is the Chase Sapphire Preferred. You get "40,000 points" after spending $3000 in the first 3 months. You also get 5,000 more points if you add an authorized user (it will be on the initial application -- just add your father or whatever.)
That's a total of 45,000 points, which can be used at a penny each to purchase travel. Apparently they have a Kayak-like tool that you can use if you want additional rewards, where you will get like 20% extra, so theoretically you will get like $540 of free travel (hotels, flights, rental cars) with this thing.
I haven't used it yet, so I can't say for sure, but the card has good reviews and everyone seems to like it.
Beyond the initial rewards, it's kind of a failcard. You get 2x points on travel and restaurants, but you can get other cards which are superior to that.
No annual fee for the first year if you use the above link, then $95 for the 2nd year and beyond.
This is a personal card and does not require a business TIN.
You are eligible for it if you have other Chase credit cards, provided that you don't already have this specific credit card.
Here is a general tip for credit card bonus whoring when you apply for multiple offers from the same bank.
Often they will balk at this, but not because you are bonus whoring.
They sometimes balk because you have "too much credit" with them already. When they complain, tell them you are willing to have them remove credit from your existing cards with them and transfer it to the new card. They will usually approve this and instantly approve your application at that point.
Also, there is no precedent at the moment for being punished for bonus whoring. So even if you sign up for multiple cards at a bank, bonus whore, and stop using each card when the bonus is over, they are happy to let you sign up for more cards and continue to bonus whore.
If I ran these banks, I would clamp down on people like me, but I'm glad they don't give a shit about bonus whoring, at least for the moment.
Oh and my credit score is finally starting to drop a bit from this.
I was able to hang in the 812-814 range for a long time, which surprised me. However, it has fallen to 773 thanks to my recent round of bonus whoring.
I don't really give a shit, especially since 773 is still pretty good.
I recommend regularly checking this link for their credit card offers:
http://slickdeals.net/deals/money/
IHG Rewards Club card.
https://creditcards.chase.com/a1/ihg...haseMasterCard
You get 60,000 IHG points, good at Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza, and Holiday Inn brands (and a few others). They are worth approximately 0.7 cents each, meaning it's like $420 to spend at these places.
You only need to spend $1000 in 3 months to get this. You need an existing IHG rewards account, which you can get at ihg.com for free.
It's a personal card, no TIN required.
It's provided by Chase. You CAN get this card even if you have other Chase cards with bonuses.
American Express Propel World
https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-cards/propelworld/
Spend $3000 in first 3 months, get 40,000 points (worth $400)
Also get $100 back in incidental airline charges, such as food, luggage, etc.
Free first year, then $175 each additional
This one is actually provided by Wells Fargo, despite being an Amex.
Weird approval process may ask for your tax return if you don't hold a regular job, but you can call and talk them out of it.
Funny thing was, my credit sunk to around 590 when I got sideways in 2006-08 same time I joined NWP.
My credit, due to perseverance, has risen to 722 as of last week. I have zero debt and $250K in the bank. I have no worries whatsoever financially.
So with that said, given my financial strength I will likely get into credit card bonus whoring. You score really only needs to be above 680 to get the best offers anyway and I would like to get some free plane tickets.
Excellent thread. I will update.
You don't even need offers. You just click on the links I am posting (which don't earn me anything btw) and you will get approved provided your credit is decent.
Main caveat is that you need to be able to spend $3000 in 3 months on the card in most cases, which can sometimes be tough.
I am debating whether to do the cash back deals from BoA (1,2,3%) or the airline points. If I start whoring too much my credit will go from 722 to below 680 which nukes me from other offers. You started in the 800s so you have room to drop.
I am only doing this to get freebies. I have a Capital One card(s) with an $7,000 and $10,000 limit and gives me nothing, so I am definitely going the credit bonus whoring route. All I really want is a couple plane tickets. I called them last week and they had no idea about credit card bonus whoring. They simply asked if I could relinquish paper statements.
$200, $100 for checking, $100 for savings. Not a credit card bonus whoring but same result. http://slickdeals.net/f/7447180-capi...ee?v=1&src=tdw
Citibank double cash card:
https://www.citi.com/credit-cards/cr...sh-credit-card
This is good if you don't have a business TIN for a Capital One Spark card (which is superior to this one).
This card does NOT require a business TIN. You get 2% cash back on all purchases.
There are no bonuses here, so it's just a good card to have if you want 2% on all purchases.
There are two small catches, though:
1) You get 1% back immediately, and 1% when you pay your minimum balance (or more) each month. This is no big deal, and will just be a slight delay.
2) You can only redeem in increments of $25, which is annoying. Capital One Spark allows you to redeem every penny you've earned, from a minimum of $10.
No annual fee.
Card is useless if you have the Spark, but otherwise it's a good one to have in your wallet.
