LoL at what they did to "fix" the Ladies Event.
I am sure Druff will have something to say about this.
The ladies event is a $10,000 buy-in.
Women get a $9,000 discount, so they buy-in for $1,000
Men have to pay the full $10,000.
And it looks like I will be out there June 7th through the 10th.
$1500 HORSE
$1500 NL
$1000 NL
$1500 Omaha H/L
Hopefully I won't be playing in all of those if things go well.
Anyway, apparently they decided it's not worth running many Limit Hold 'Em events anymore.
The $3000 Limit Hold 'Em event -- the one I won in 2005 -- is gone.
The $1500 Limit Hold 'Em shootout -- my favorite event -- is gone. My best finish was 12th, and I was literally 1 card away from a final table in 2006.
The Mixed Hold 'Em event -- which started with two of them in 2007, reduced to one after a few years, is now gone. This was my second favorite event. My best finish was 10th, in 2008.
The only Limit Hold 'Em events now are:
$1500 Limit Hold 'Em -- this is where I finished 3rd in my first-ever WSOP event in 2005, and spun a seat cover.
$5000 Limit Hold 'Em -- I was the stone bubble boy last year (19th) after losing 4 hands in a row.
$2500 Limit Hold 'Em 6 Max -- I have never cashed in this. Frankly, this is a very difficult event because it's pretty much all online LHE all-stars.
Guess it had to happen because Limit Hold 'Em is a dying game, but with 62 events, you'd think they could have kept running the ones they canceled.
As I've done since 2010, I will be running a BAP here again for my World Series action. People who bought in previous years will get a discount. I won't post the details of the BAP for awhile, though, because we're still 3 months away.
I don't think I'll be playing many (or any) $1k NL events, because you start off with too short of a stack, and you are fucked if you don't get anything going in the first few rounds. I found those events to be very frustrating.
I also won't be playing the Bracelet Bounty event again, as it was a gigantic fail.
Can you imagine what a cluster fuck that 1500 milly gurantee is gonna be.
Not enough other tourney's imo
Same as bars who have "Lady's night".
Abe Limon took some heat for this tweet:
https://twitter.com/limonpoker2013 WSOP BUY-IN STRUCTURE: 10k-men. 1k.-women. 3k-ladyboys. 4k-post op transgender. 5k-pre op. 6k-Vanessa Selbst. 8k-Jason Somerville.
That is true! At first I was thinking it was discrimination but if ladies get a discount at a bar a certain night of the week while men pay full price which is allowed and accepted by society then they can use that loophole.
For bars a ladies night brings in the men who know the females will be there which it's a necessity for a bar owners profit line.
At least they lumped the limit 5k limit and 2500 limit 6 max within a week
Pretty sure Deal was joking.
Pervert Steve Zolotow, has his only bracelet in Chinese Poker, btw.
The great thing about some of the Limit Hold 'Em events -- and especially the Mixed Holdem -- was that you'd get a number of fish who had no clue and no chance. Unlike NL, where you can get lucky in key spots and run really deep (look at Tiffany Michelle's 17th place finish in 2008 in the Main Event), fish in Limit events basically have no chance unless they win a staggering number of hands they enter.
The Limit Shootout always had a lot of fish.
The $1500 Limit event (which is still there, thankfully) also gets a lot of fish. The Mixed Holdem got a lot of fish when it was $1500, but got a lot tougher when they raised it to $2500. When I finished 10th in 2008 (it was $1500 then), all but one of the good limit players fell out before me, and I was salivating at the thought of playing a final table with those guys, where half of it was limit. The only remaining limit player (Jonathan Tamayo) almost won it, but ran really bad heads up.
Unfortunately, the $2500 6-max is a very tough event, as very few fish enter. The $5000 Limit actually seems like it would have an even tougher field, but surprisingly you get a number of semi-donks in the field, including guys who are primarily NL players and just have money to burn. Still, it's a small field, and you get a lot of limit all-stars entering.
"This is a normal $10k event, we just think women are too broke or too terrible so to make it fair we'll give them a 9k discount and dilute the prize pool".
Have Chico Loco phone up and say he's happy to play if they put up his buyin and give him $1000, since there arent enough famous hispanic poker players.
Harrahs also having a 100 metre dash along Fremont before the main event, whites will be given a 10 metre head start.
When faced with a difficult decision, ask yourself "What would Micon do?", then do the opposite.

I'm planning to be in Vegas May 31-June 4, this year playing in Event #6 only. (and whatever good cash games I can find).
"Event #6, “The Millionaire Maker” scheduled for Saturday, June 1, is a $1,500 buy-in Single Re-Entry No-Limit Hold’em tournament, where players can bust the morning flight and re-enter during the afternoon flight. Flight 6A begins at 11 a.m., and busted players can enter Flight 6B at 5 p.m. on the same day. This is a one-time re-entry only, and the event is structured to last three days. Players do not have to re-enter. Day 2 for all surviving players will be Sunday, June 2. The victor is guaranteed $1,000,000 for winning, as the prize pool will be altered from standard WSOP events to ensure this first place payout. Final prize pool information won’t be known until registration for the event officially closes, but WSOP officials anticipate a huge turnout for this event."
