I get that it takes an absolute genius to be able to do that, but I'm sure you can see how that makes the avg person not want to play.

I don't play chess often, but I do know how. I would probably get pulverized by anyone who has a clue to what they're doing. I enjoy playing beginners because I've never invested an extra minute of my life into chess other than when sitting at a chess board. So I don't know anything about opening moves etc. I just know the horse makes Ls and the pointy guy goes diagonal. Protect your queen etc etc blah blah blah

    That is all
Keep in mind the above can be said for nearly any game of skill. If you want to be at the top of any sport or activity you need to invest quite a bit of time in it. What's really important is what sort of positives you derive whether it be fun, social, physical, etc. If it was all about winning very few people would continue with such activities after 30.

For instance I continue to play hockey all year despite the fact I would get absolutely destroyed by a Junior B player.

It's cool man. you win at being smarter than me, and you can be the forum king you so long for.

I'll go back to being a lazy drug addict. You continue posting here all day telling us how lazy everyone is

right but the way you guys are explaining it is that their i no luck involved at all. Most games of skill involve luck, especially sports. For instance you do love hocky, and you play so that one game you may get lucky and score the goal or make a great defensive play for your team. Maybeluck isn't the word. Right place right time, but I think you know what im saying

chess just seems like whos the best mathematician and given the most time to studying it

Honestly I just play for 2 reasons. To try and keep in shape and have fun. Scoring/winning is a bonus to the fun aspect but it really doesn't matter that much. Most of the guys on my team are 5-10 years younger, as long as I can keep up with my group I'm happy. It's a recreational activity.

Sounds like tine and weiss need to have a scholastic bowl followed by a wrestling match.

It will be fun to watch Weissman yell "forfeit" immediately, and then twist smarty pants into a pretzel.

Our "forum king" needs his comeuppance.

please do, as I'm sure you know at least one person and have one more story to tell us about your personal experience in each field.

Calling peeople lazy because they don't dedicate their lives to being ranked in chess, simply because they were born without the math genius gene is fucking absurd.
I dont think hes saying that people who dont play chess are lazy, I think hes saying that people who are lazy dont play chess

Personally I smoke a shitload of weed and I havent played chess since I was a kid, so theres that data

This is unreal; never knew a board game could reach such levels of fetishization. I would go into how competitive physical endeavors (SPORTS) bring out the best in people, but pontificating such ideals would ring hollow with Sonatine.

Also, this is the more entertaining board game:
