Cross Country Move - Tipping

Sort of feel bad about starting another tipping thread.

I got the guys loading up the truck right now. 6 days they will spend from Portland to New York.

Total move was around 8700.

I looked online but was no clear consensus to how much to tip. Thinking my play is when they finish packing up today telling them that if they get all the shit over to New York in one piece I will give them 1000 cash they can split between the two of them. I feel the incentive might go a long way. For example, maybe take more caution where they park that truck over night etc.


Any advice?

With a 4 man team, $50 a person is my standard rate but if they haul ass and dont fuck anything up, i punch it up to $70'ish.

For what sounds like about 2200 square feet of goods, Id bump it to $100-130 a person, again providing they dont fuck around and get the work done in a way that pisses me off the absolute mathematic least.

If its a 6 man team, Id drop it to $70-100'ish.

Caveat: my $50 a person estimate is based on about 1000 square feet and they get in and get the fuck out in about 60 minutes.

I'd say that's more than fair and enough incentive for them to not fuck about with your stuff.

$1,000 is too much, even $500 would be more then enough.

500 total seems about right to me. Id tell them prior also that way they will be extra carefull

One more thing.. a 2 man crew in NY ... sketchy.

One person has to stay by the truck at all times or boxes are going to walk away.

I always insist on at least 4 people and I probably have half as much stuff as you.

Also ignore my 2200 sq feet comment, I was confusing rates. I expect you have like 1500'ish.
