AL Central gonna be quite a battle.
Tigers prolly end the night in 2nd.
Everyone has their theories about Tigers pitching. Haven't seen it said, but I believe the annual workload including post season runs have caught up with them.
No bullpen has repeatedly forced above average work. They are getting a bit older too.
Rookie SS Suarez is a nice surprise and helps correct that disaster for now. The other teams will get a book on him and he'll likely come back to earth. Nice defense. Nice play tonight.
Still got a month for front office to figure it out. Not the lock we thought but the problems are no surprise to anyone either.
Another month we may see an All Rookie infield in Boston. Maybe 6 of 9 players fielded will be rookies at some point. I punted a while ago and have been following College World Series.
Son's team went to College World Series Regional and got bounced. I got roped in by the do or die competitiveness of the games.
Son went off to play collegiate summer baseball after CWS and blew out his elbow during his second start. Let up 7 runs in 3rd and destroyed his ERA. So he's back home.
Off to Boston this week to visit orthopedic "elbow guy".
Kid ain't taking it well so the tension is thick around the house. Good times.

I don't know wtf is going on but after a hot start the Tigers have looked like shit for the past month.
KC is the real deal and could finally get over that hump if Detroit can't their shit together fast.
Verlander and Nathans MPH have trended down 3 years in a row. That is a huge problem
Also Scherzer has been pretty shaky lately
He did pitch his first complete game in history two starts ago but it's sandwiched in between a few busts.
Obviously I'm a Tigers fan but I'm also a realist who will tell it like it is and this team is struggling HARD right now. I didn't expect them to have the start they did but never expected them to collapse this badly anytime this year like they have ever since.
valenti and foster was hilarious today, did you listen bnp?
I will repeat cause it appears a remedial lesson is called for:
Everyone has their theories about Tigers pitching. Haven't seen it said, but I believe the annual workload including post season runs have caught up with them.
No bullpen has repeatedly forced above average work. Tigers are killing their starters.
The following stat better not come as a surprise to you. I also bet you have an intuition about the previous couple of seasons.
Verlander 111.6 pitches per start - #1 in MLB
Scherzer 109.1 #4
There's a great first half plan. Stick with that. If you make playoffs there will be nothing left.
Nothing has changed with relief. Nothing last year and probably nothing this year. I think it is not being too simplistic. I hated the failure to solve light hitting shortstop too. That is more indicative of the weak front office.
Edit: I know about Suarez... but it took way too long and other immediate fixes were out there.
Sports talk will be great Lew. The AL Central is ultra competiive top to bottom and will be a great race to finish.
Bonus:
Mentioned it before. But if you like money always check out the under when Red Sox are pitching their front line guys. Great pitching and zero offense. Not perfect but hugely profitable.

Koji Uehara threw a splitter in the dirt that struck out Jose Iglesias for the final out of last years ALCS. He continues to be dominant.
He's 39 years old and has a one year $4.25MM contract.
The Red Sox and their "all rookie lineup" lose to the mighty Cubs tonight. Uehara will only serve to help Sox finish at .500 end of season.
Chicks dig the long ball and Grand Slams must make you all wet down there.
But pitching wins in the playoffs. Do you dare risk a reprise of last season?
Does Detroit have anything to offer in the farm system as trade?
Let's face it, this is the year or bust. The rotation ain't gonna be this strong next year. Hunter & Martinez will file for social security in November.
Let's do business.
Porcello sick as fuck with back to back shutouts.
Porcello is GODing it up hard. His stats line today is really unheard of with a complete game having no strikeouts and no walks.
Here is his last three starts:
Wherever he went to learn to pitch he should recommend to JV asap.
Porcello better make the all star game imo.
Billy Beane didn't wait til July 31 trade deadline to make his move. He traded his farm system & is going for broke. The perennial playoff loser is loading up for the Tigers matchup.
Oakland and Chicago announced the big trade on Saturday, with Samardzija and Hammel heading to the West Coast for a package of prospects that included the A's first-round selections in each of the past two drafts.
Samardzija won tonight vs Toronto.
So what have the Tigers done.....
Talk has Joaquin Benoit going back to Detroit. Wasn't so great in last year's Playoffs.
Uehara's swing & miss rate in relief is so sick. If Tigers got Uehara, I would be all-in. But I found these stats and Benoit isn't that far behind.
It's all about the splitter baby
2013 Huge 500 pitch sample Uehara
2014 Benoit is looking good. Koji has better V & H Movement & much bigger sample size.
Tigers need a left handed bat after Victor Martinez. Regular season is fun but it's all about the match ups in playoffs.
WTF is going on in Detroit BNP & Lew? Usually GM's wait til the last minute to catch declining value. If Mr Moneyball value guy moved now and gave up a ton maybe the waiting game ain't gonna work this year.
The Red Sox elected not to field a team this year and I took a flier on Tigers winning it all in 2014 last November.
Don't wanna be broke & a Dodgers fan.
Justin Verlander sure does suck. Kate Upton not going to put up being with a loser like that.
