I saw that the Tigers also paid $30m, sounds crazy at first but at least you know this one contract won't destroy this team that's basically ready to win now.

Gut mentioned you can now slide Miggy over to 1st and DH, I have mentioned this being a vital thing for protecting Miggys health over the long term to BNP. I didn't really think it was possible to move Prince but I guess it was. You can rotate VMart and Miggy between DH/1st now if you want and you can even work in VMart at catch if you wanted, you have a solid 2nd basemen and Igglesias at short. So my question is do they try and bring back Jhonny Peralta to play 3rd or just go with something new?

At least we know we can resign Scherzer now and by all accords he wants to continue being a Tiger.

What do you do with the money saved? In Dombrowski we trust.

Tigers want to free up salary now. They could have said screw it and signed Scherzer still since his new contract won't take over until 2015 while keeping Prince but the thing is if Prince has another stinker year next season his stock just plummets even more so dealing him now makes sense even though he probably will go to the more hitter friendly park in Texas and smash out 45 homers.

Rumors are flying that the Tigers might go after Beltran even though he is in talks with the Red Sox as well at the moment but if they could land him he is another bat to surround Cabrera with.

Now just go get Joe Nathan for two years (former teammate Tori Hunter is trying to get him to the D as well) and look into Peralta as well. It's not completely about saving money though some of it is but your trying to get the best value while making some quality moves to improve the team all around.

Miggy back at first is better for his overall health not to mention he's somewhat of a defensive liability playing that position BUT if needed he could play it a few games next year after having done so the past two seasons.

I said the same thing to a few of my buddies who were like good riddance, I'm like don't get jealous when Prince starts smashing homers left and right, that's a hitters park. He could possibly hit more bombs in Texas in 1 season than he did in his career as a Tiger. lol

I was assuming some sort of combo of kinsler\infante/castellanos at second and third. Perhaps all 3 starting, with kinsler in the OF?

That was a terrible contract the day it was signed. It just may be easier to stomach in the long run if he helps deliver a title.
Good work by the GM. I never thought they'd get out from that contract but they did & got a quality player in return. Not sure what Kinsler's contract situation is but I still think it's good because it gives Detroit some great options.

This was a good deal for both teams for a variety of reasons. Winners on both sides, which is rare.

Texas basically got Prince for 7/138, shed Kinslers bad contract, and allowed some shifting of their infield with younger players in with trade.

Detroit got a decent hitter to replace Fielder, salary relief, and the ability to make a huge signing that wouldn't have been possible with Fielder on the books.

As important a trade as Red Sox - Dodgers made two years ago.

5 tool guy vs aging 1 tool fat guy. They don't age well without juice. Papi was able to skate under the testing' recent crackdown.

Now you can sign Scherzer. No Scherzer no lock on pennant.

Closer of course. Difference last year and still not solved. Almost perfect team.

Tigers signed Phil Coke today to a non-guaranteed contract at 1 year, $1.9 million (damn, but part I put in bold is cool). They are looking at Shin-Soo Choo as another option as well for left field.

whomever signs choo will get ripped off. no way he'll be worth the money he'll command.

detroit signing scherzer to a long to a long term deal should have negative worth the year he signs it. slim possiblity he'll pitch at a cy young level ever again. think closer to #2/3 starter, or his career norm.

Well if that goes down then I predict the price of Hot and Ready's going from $5 to $6 over night.

Did they can Remy because of his son or did he take a leave of absence ? I can't stand Remy. ECK IS GOD
    China,

You read the Globe piece on Jarod Remy murder trial?

Wether Jerry Remy should come back to the booth - is he culpable for son's act?

Jerry Remy may have been a poor father but he is even worse as a broadcaster.

Does someone have to die to get Eck in the booth?

    Eck is god.
