Smallish town USA has usually been immune to such nonsense. Not this time, at midnite there's all kinds of people running around looking at their phones.

I wonder if there's a way to have a Dr. Jill Stein cameo in Pokemon Go. hmmmm. Druff time to dust off your coding skills. I'll get in touch w/ Nintendo USA to see when they'll be updating. Go!

Edit: I think we can all agree that the greatest generation was that of our great grandfathers.
Most are dead now RIP. Those that are still living are pushing 90 y.o.

When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.

CS Lewis also accomplished way more than 99.99 percent of the population in his life. There is a difference between being a world famous author and engaging in "non adult activities" and a 29 yr old that still lives at home , has no job, and is running around downtown looking for a kick ass lvl 29 ice dragon.

You show me a male in his late 20s or 30s playing this, and I guarantee you a high percentage of them live at home and are unemployed.
Some may be monetizing their gameplay on social media, but my guess is that the vast majority of them are just taken up by this lastest fad even if employed.

Yet another farcical trend that will end in obscurity. I feel nothing but disdain for any classless dork playing this game. I rather read a Goya biography or scan through Velasquez's masterpieces before even thinking about playing video games. From early on, my parents instilled in me that the Japanese people were perpetual charlatans who created these distractions with the cynical intention of impairing childhood development eveywhere around the world, except japan. Although not confirmed, I believe it absolutely to be the case.

the game is very much like a scavenger hunt/car rally in that one must travel about finding landmarks

really, this game is a technological automation of something people have been doing for a long time--the clever thing about it is it can generate foot traffic for small businesses

    ps i don't play it...hell, i just use a flip phone

guy i work with said he has walked 12 kilometres in the last 3 days looking for pokemon. he said you earn more points for distance travelled etc as well. They also have something placed at all the parks/gyms in your state which gets adults using the app to take their kids there.

i also read a news article quoting some depressed and mentally ill people that this is the first thing that has got them leaving the house and socialising with other people in months.

Here is a quote that addresses the reason for the possibility.

"Pokemon Go was released on July 5th, and since then it has taken the Internet by storm; it’s already more popular than Tinder and, by the end of the week, should have more users than Twitter. It’s a brilliant idea and a ton of fun. Unfortunately, when people start wandering around with their heads in their smartphones, they end up getting hurt, exposing themselves to crime, and finding dead bodies.

That raises a host of legal issues that our courts are just beginning to hash out, like with the Match.com murder lawsuit and the Google Maps pedestrian accident case. If a Pokemon Go user is injured, or attacked, or lulled into trespassing, could there be liability? I don’t know. Nobody does. We can speculate generally about the liability of companies that provide augmented reality, but the actual answers have to wait for court cases with specific facts."

From a personal perspective I don't know how the company could be held liable. Considering the demographics of the majority of participants I believe someone, at some point, will bring a lawsuit. First guess is that it will be something along the lines of "directed people into to areas that the company should have known were hazardous".

I haven't played Pokemon Go. I just think it's funny how polarizing this game is.

It's just like Candy Crush or whatever the Zynga games were named. Except it seems like it is steamrolling even quicker than the predecessors.

Druff why would you introduce this game to a 6 yr old boy? I realize he's likely a child prodigy but have him play some piano or play some sports before shit like this.

This Texan loser gets busted for a felony terroristic threat against pokemon players but all the branches of law enforcement can't stop the cop killers.

HARLINGEN — Police arrested a Palmview man yesterday accused of threatening to harm anyone attending Pokémon Go events.
Harlingen police received information Friday that the man, identified as Nathan Cerda, had posted “a potential threat” on Facebook.
“In his threat, Cerda warned that he and his friends were going to ‘purge’ those who were participating in the event,” police said in a statement.
“The threat mentioned the use of ‘modified’ paintball guns and warned everyone ‘not to be walking around.’”
Pokémon Go events were scheduled for yesterday in Downtown Harlingen and at the McAllen Convention Center.
Police said they took the threat seriously. Harlingen police Sgt. David Osborne said that because events were happening across the Valley, including Harlingen, the contents of the Facebook page were enough for police here to act.
“Due to the credibility of the threat and in the interest of public safety, the Harlingen Police Department in partnership with the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office initiated a criminal investigation on Cerda,” the statement said.
Police obtained a felony arrest warrant for terroristic threat.

I grew up playing pokemon on gameboy. Never got into the card game.

It's not surprising people over 35 don't get why the mid to late 20 somethings enjoy these games so much. It really does speak to the way we grew up and are growing with integrating technologies. Something that hasn't really begun to manifest itself until the 2000's, hence the kids that grew up with this cultural shift embrace it with such enthusiasm.

I caught this one under a bridge.

I actually downloaded the Pokeman App this AM , as I wanted to see what the big deal is. I lasted about 10 mins and then had to go back to something productive.

I often say " I must be getting old" as I dont understand why people younger than me like some of the shit they do. For example, the terrible DJ music in vegas that idiots pay 10k + a table for or that electric daisy glow stick bullshit. But this is different as there are actually grown men (people near my age) running around looking for these characters and getting so excited about it. I have never seen anything like it., It is truly pathetic.
