Even if he wins Florida, Ohio, Iowa, North Carolina, and Nevada, plus carries all the states leaning Republican but not solid (Arizona, Georgia, Utah), he will still lose the election.

This is because he has fallen way behind in Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Virginia, and Colorado.

So that's big trouble, because the strategy of "carry what Romney did in 2012, then win Ohio, Florida, and get 19 more electoral votes on top of that" is not going to work.

Even if he wins Ohio and Florida (which he probably won't), he's not going to score those extra 19. Just not enough states going his way to make it happen.

almost certainly Russians. attributing state sponsorship is tricky. if you own a computer in China and are Chinese, you are effectively in the Peoples Liberation Army and so anything you do becomes state sponsored to an extent, however the toolkits attributed to Chinese APT are reserved for a very small core of legitimate state actors. the next ring out wont get the zero days and military grade stealth backdoors but do get all the speed they can take. and so on.

its unlikely that Russia has ignored the success of that paradigm but really, im not sure how things operate on that front. its all very murky. russia does, for example, extradite hackers we bust. and the Russian Business Network was 100% russian mobsters. but the lines get very blurry these days. ill ask around.

I've been voting absentee for years but last November I just happened to be home to vote in person in some local elections including for mayor of Indianapolis. They just got electronic machines in my precinct. For years they had big steel monsters. When you pulled the main lever the curtain closed, then you flipped the switches you wanted to vote for, then when you used the main lever to open the curtain again your vote was recorded. I used to work the polls. The tallies were in the back of the machine behind a locked panel and you had to have two keys to open it, which keys were held one by a Democratic poll worker and one by a Republican. Then the poll workers simultaneously recorded the totals on PAPER and there were several copies. Hack proof. Those machines could last forever. Instead they spend more money on fragile and hackable black box software-run machines.

I'm not seeing anything about the actual voting process being impacted. It looks like they stole voter registration data. I thought most of that stuff was public record anyway.
