Interestingly, there were no huge upsets in the NHL on March 21. The only two were Boston, which was -145 and lost, and Florida, which was -150 and lost. We did have expected favorite victories from Vancouver (-275, won by 3), Tampa (-400, won by 3), Vegas (-190, won by 2), and Carolina (-250, won in OT).
The only possibility is that our pudgy bald friend bet on Carolina -1.5, and then the 3-2 win in OT wasn't enough.
But did he lose $33k that day? Probably. This sounds like a Martingale gone wrong.
